Ride reports
Sunday 4.11.12 On the Sunday before the Melbourne Cup ten riders gathered at South Geelong on a stunning Spring day. Our riders were Steve, Nick, Rohan, Wendy, Rolf, Marie, Geof B, Ross, Ilton and Linda. We made tracks for the Ted Wilson Trail, with the sun on our backs we were soon away from the traffic high up on the trail overlooking the Ring Road. We stayed on the trail until Baccus Marsh Road, here we turned left for a few Kms and then right onto Elcho Road. Our bunch was soon at Rod's Bakery enjoying tea, coffee and cakes. The Lara fun run had not long finished and the bakery was quite busy refuelling lots of weary runners. After our break we rolled on to The William Hovell Trail and back to Geelong.
Staunton Vale & Lara on 6.11.12 On a warm overcast day with showers forecast for late afternoon, six riders showed up for Trudi's ride Peter J, Jackie, David, John, Julie and Jim. Taking the Ted Wilson bike path till Ballarat Rd then onto Ballan Rd we were sailing along, some dreaming of the horses that they had backed on that race that stops the nation. Till we heard a late call from David, SNAKE !!! We all swerved in sequence, lucky not to have run over the copper head. Coffee was at the local Anakie store, some running repairs were made to Julie's brakes. Well rested and refueled it was time to tackle the hills, turning right into Staughton Vale, it was lovely riding, with a very pretty display of many shades of pink pig face flowers were out, one lone rider (still dreaming of that horse race) missed the turn into Granite Rd, he was rounded up and brought back to join the others. Turning right again onto the Bacchus Marsh Rd smooth sailing all the way till Lara for lunch. A quick run down Forest Rd then along into Heales Rd rejoining the Ted Wilson bike path taking us back to Church St.
To Moriac on Thursday 8.11.12 Nine riders decided this was a perfect day for a ride, Maxine, Lyn G, Lyn L, Marianne, Heather, Trudi, Peter L, Geoff, and Peter J were right again and enjoyed a lovely ride out to Moriac via Anglesea Rd and Blackgate Rd. After long discussions over coffee we decided we should head for home which was accomplished at a great rate with a nice little tailwind down Cape Otway Rd and Mt Duneed Rd., back to Bunnings
Moriac via Pollocksford 11.11.12 John led this combined ride with Cycling Geelong and we had 14 participants - Pam, Heather, Geoff, Linda, Ilton, David E, Nick, Steve, Stephen, Rohan, Rolf, and David and Helen from Cycling Geelong. As we started off John Carleton rode past and had a chat with us. The weather was perfect with a light northerly wind and we travelled out along the Barwon to Fyansford, then on the Hamilton Highway to Pollocksford and to coffee via Hendy Main Rd. There we met Mel & Betty White who joined us for refreshments. The return trip was via Paraparap and Highton for a distance of 68km
Little River 13.11.12 On a sunny but cool morning ten riders meet at the top of Church St, for Trudi's ride Peter J, Lyn, Jackie, David, Peter L, Jim, Joe, Ben and Zac. Setting off down Church St slowly winding our way towards the water front to join the bike path at St Helens jetty for a short time. Then taking the road option around North Shore some deciding to go on the path around the shell refinery. While stopping for a water break Jackie found that her speedo wasn't working, on a closer look we discovered that she was missing her magnet from the front wheel. Further up the road we stopped again to join the three riders that had taken the path. On telling David that she was missing a magnet he smiled and turned away, as he knew what had happened. When he was assembling the bikes this morning he had placed the wrong front wheel on the bikes. (Never mind David it could happen to anyone) We descended on the local bakery at Lara for coffee, and toilet break, but not before a quick wheel change. Well refreshed and with a slight breeze we were back on our bikes riding down Mc Clelland Ave joining the old Melbourne Rd riding in the direction towards Little River. Quite a steady pace was set. Lunch was at the You Yangs at the rangers station, sitting in the sunshine listening to the birds was very peaceful. Forest Rd was a bit breezey and cool at times, we then turned into Patullos Rd then Elcho Rd and onto the Bacchus Marsh Rd rejoining the Ted Wilson bike path and back to where it all started by 1.30 with 70 km on the clock
15th November Peter J, Mick and Lyn Gregg, Peter and MarianneLanyon, Glenda Oakley rode to Torquay
To Torquay 18.11.12 Heather & Alistair enjoyed a lovely ride in good conditions to Torquay & return via Horseshoe Bend Rd. A slight headwind on the way down was rewarded with a fast return to the Grovedale Hotel starting point. Coffee was had at the kiosk of the upgraded Torquay Angling Club where good company & engaging conversation was enjoyed.
Anglesea to Lorne - 20.11.12 Torquay to Lorne, about 98 klm, a good ride on a warm November day. Six riders took up the challenge, Peter L, Marianne, Lyn L, Ben, Ray and Peter J and two decided they needed a recovery ride after the Bellarine 100 on Saturday and decided to leave from Anglesea, Lyn G and Trudi enjoyed a peaceful ride to Lorne where they waited in the shade with a drink for the "Greyhounds" to arrive.

The six departed Torquay at 9-00 am with a light Nth Easter as a following wind, an obliging lollypop man let us through the road works first going up the Jan Juc hill and before long we were at Great Escape Books Aireys Inlet where we enjoyed a lovely coffee reclining on a couple of couches.

Revived we headed along the magnificent Great Ocean Rd. enjoying the views at every turn and soon rolled into Lorne meeting up with Lyn G and Trudi at the River Teahouse where we sat in the shade and chatted until it was time to head back.

The Nth Easter had picked up and gave us some curry in the open sections but mostly the GOR is fairly protected and it didn't take long for us to leave Lyn G and Trudi at Anglesea and for the rest to return to cafe Lanyon for a cool drink and a choccy slice.

To Barwon Heads on Thursday - 22.11.12 A cool Sth Westerly and a bit overcast but the promise of Sunny breaks encouraged Lyn G, Ray, Trudi, Geof, Marie, Maxine and Peter J to get on the bike and head for Barwon Heads, we also had Robyn with us, a possible new member, and picked up Dave along the road, another possible new member and on our way back at the Blackgate Path we were joined by Lyn L.
The route today was out Surf Coast Hwy to Boundary Rd, Barwon Heads Rd, Lake Rd, Blackrock Rd, 13th Beach into Barwon Heads and to Annie's for a very enjoyable coffee. Apparently Cadel Evans was sitting in the corner having a coffee so I guess we can legitimately claim to have had a coffee with Cadel! Well, maybe not, anyway after enjoying our coffee and chat it was back on the bike, we returned via 13th Beach again because we can and it is just fantastic enjoying that view as we peddle along.
We also continued on the Blackgate Path because it is there and a great ride, to Bluestone School Rd, Barwon Heads Rd, Boundary Rd and on Surf Coast Hwy back to Grovedale Hotel.

Moriac & Torquay - 25.11.12 On Sunday the 25th 13 riders rode a 70 Km loop around Moriac-Torquay and return. The weather was fine with a generally Southern breeze. Our riders were, Steve Rohan, Rolf, John C, Bruce M, Bruce T, Heather, Geoff, David, Maxine, Simon, Ross and Wendy. We made our way to Moriac via Mount Duneed Road. Riders set a leisurely pace to the Moriac store and we were soon seated for our first coffee stop .Some riders headed back to Geelong from Moriac and the rest rolled on to Torquay for our second coffee stop, we chose the always good, Kobo cafe. During the ride we thought a tail wind could be on the cards. And after a good long stop, chat about bike ect the remaining seven riders enjoyed a smooth run home. Another pleasant GTC ride was had by all in good cycling conditions.
Thursday to Torquay - 29.11.12 Thursday coffee ride to Torquay. Ten riders decided to brave the forecast hot day of 38 deg, Lyn G, Lyn L, Marie, Marianne, Jackie, Peter L, Geof, Rolf, David R, Dave, and Peter J all headed down the Surfcoast Hwy to Boundary Rd, took a right turn and a left onto Ghazapore Rd, with a light Northerly it was pleasant riding over Mt Duneed Rd and around onto the Anglesea Rd. The road was a little busy but with a reasonable shoulder the group got along at a reasonable pace and was soon turning left at Coombes Rd. Geof thought there was a Real Estate conspiracy operating as we headed through Ocean Acres and was careful not to express an interest in any of the huge homes, but was more than happy with the hot mix road surface which is a delight to ride.
Exiting Ocean Acres onto Grossmans Rd we took the long way around Torquay enjoying the views over the ocean, no sight of the algal bloom which later closed the beach. Cafe Lanyon was the destination and our wonderful hosts produced a very nice date slice and shortbreads washed down with coffee and tea.
After enjoying our break it was back on the bikes and down HBend Rd to Boundary Rd where the group split to head home, temperature had risen to about 26.5 and a little humid but still pleasant riding, easy ride of about 50 ks and a very big thank you to Peter and Marianne for their excellent hospitality

Steve's ride around the Geelong Waterfront & Barwon River - 2.12.12 On Sunday the 2nd of December 10 GTC riders gathered for an easy bike path ride. Our riders were, Steve, Rolf, Peter J, Ross, John H, Bruce M, John C, Wendy, Geof and Marie. It was a fine and overcast morning with a few dark clouds overhead. We rolled over Swanston Street and turned left at the waterfront. The Geelong Speed Trials were on over this weekend and the Sunday runs were just starting as we went past. Lots of spectators and good to see a great event back in Geelong. We took the Esplanade Road to Rippleside Park and weaved our way through the industrial part of North Geelong and onto the Cement Works Linear Bike Path. We trotted along at an easy pace all the way up to the cement silos, down the Hyland Street hill, onto the North bank of the Barwon and into the Barwon Edge Cafe for our coffee stop. We found table 10 and all enjoyed tea, coffee, hot chocolate, scones and cakes. Soon it was time for us to keep moving. We all rolled away along the Barwon and eventually went our separate ways from the river path. The dark clouds did not bring any rain and all was well on a very easy GTC bike ride.
Drysdale & Barwon Heads - 4.12.12 The windy forecast was a bit off putting but nine riders were willing to get on the road. Jackie, Glenda, Trudi, Lyn G, Dave, Ray, David R, Ben and Peter J headed off to Drysdale for a coffee, the plan was to continue to Portarlington and Indented Head but the fast freshening tailwind indicated that the trip home would be a real drag so leader David R made an executive decision to head across the wind to Ocean Grove and Barwon Heads, this worked well, the trip down 13th Beach was reasonably protected but the run along Blackgate Road to HSBend Rd against a very strong head wind made everyone glad that the ride had been changed.
A quick ride down HSBend Rd to the picnic area near the floodway for a picnic lunch and then everyone continued on splitting to head home and out of the wind. Thanks David R for a good ride in difficult conditions.

Thursday's ride to the Purple Duck - 6.12.12
Nine riders enjoyed a very pleasant ride out the Queenscliff Rd to the Purple Duck, Lyn G, Maxine, Marie, Trudi, Ray, Dave, Geof, Rolf and Peter J were there to enjoy the day. There was so much chatter up the front that Dave and Rolf were half way to Queenscliff before Geof was able to turn them around and get them back to the Purple Duck which they had passed in a daze.
Coffee over it was an enjoyable ride back against a light WNW breeze. A very pleasant morning on the bike
